People Have Already Raised Almost Half A Million Dollars For Alton Sterling's Family After His Death

R.I.P.

People are coming together in the wake of Alton Sterling's controversial killing to help his family.
On Tuesday, the 37-year-old was shot and killed in Baton Rouge after two police officers pinned him to the ground and fired multiple rounds at him, claiming he was armed.
However, a second video showed that the Louisiana resident wasn't actually holding a gun when the cops shot him.
The community is working together to support His family (wife and 5 kids) financially.
On Wednesday, writer and actress Issa Rae created a GoFundMe page to raise money directly for Mr. Sterling's family.
The 31-year-old, who stars in the YouTube web series "Awkward Black Girl", created the profile to serve as a scholarship fund for his five kids, writing in the description:
"If you feel helpless, but want to play a small part in easing the burden of #AltonSterling's family, consider donating to this scholarship fund for his 15-year-old son (and his other kids).

*ALL* funds raised will go to Alton Sterling's family."

Ever since, over 16,000 people have joined together to contribute money to the grieving family, and have raised over $480K at the time of this posting.
Issa wrote in an update that she's working with Alton's legal team to ensure every cent of the almost half million dollars donated goes directly to his loved ones, posting:
"I have left word for the Edmond, the family attorney and have been consulting with my legal advisors to ensure that ALL of the money will get to the family (hopefully tax free). We're working on the most efficient plan and I thank all of you who have reached out to help and offer your services/connections. I will continue to keep you posted."
